Community Matters

I am glad to be a part of the African American community. To define African American can be quite complex. This term describes a very diverse group of people in American society. Being an African American male in this country is a hard but enjoyable task. I don’t ever like to pull the race card, but honestly I have to deal with different problems than most others.  We are a proud and cultural people with a lot to offer society, but like a whole lot of people we don’t always have the resources to make the difference that we want to. Year up is an excellent program because it allows people like me with potential to go far in the world but wont necessarily get the change to do so. I recently read a short article about communities and the author said that you are where you work; pretty much saying that people in this country have lost the value of a good community. I think that the African American community still understands the value of togetherness in their neighborhoods and have to stick together to survive in the country. There was a time when all they had was family, which included the community as a whole and the church. They developed their own values and traditions that may be different from mainstream society.

  1. I really understand how enjoyable it is to be a black male being one. Having the athleticism through high school got me through of basketball challenges. We do have a lot to offer like our minds and athleticism. So I agree with how people need to give us a chance before judging us.
